IZFP Dresden
Nondestructive Evaluation for Quality and Safety   Scientists and technicians at the Fraunhofer Institute for Non-Destructive Testing (IZFP), Dresden branch, develop innovative methods and testing systems to characterize materials, to control product quality and to monitor manufacturing processes and plant components. The Dresden branch co-ordinates within the overall Fraunhofer Institute IZFP the business units Aviation and Aerospace, Electronics / Microsystem Engineering / Nanotechnology and Environmental and Energy Technology / Life Sciences. The working groups in Dresden possess special competencies for developing Complex Testing System and Systems for Structural Health Monitoring, in NDE for Micro- and Nanostructures, for developing Sensor Systems and in Optical Diagnosis. more about Fraunhofer IZFP

Microsystem for Structural Health Monitoring
For acoustical structure monitoring of light weight materials, microsystems are being developed which can be networked across large specimen areas. These sensor net nodes are three-dimensionally set-up and thus especially energy saving and robust. Analog electronics, a digital signal processor, power supply and data communication are »on-board«. The health monitoring systems must work in aircrafts or wind power plants reliably for a long time, hence the microsystems have to meet high quality requirements. Packaging technologies can be evaluated with industrial micro computertomography (3D-CT, Cone-Beam-CT resp. µCT) highly resolved, making defect bonding joints as »Kissing Bonds« nondestructively visible. Fraunhofer IZFP Dresden contributes with these systems to Research for Sustainability.
